Help Vanessa Overcome Post-Transplant Challenges

Donation protected
We’re reaching out to share the journey of an incredible woman, wife, and mother.
Vanessa is only 34 years old, but she’s already accomplished more than most. She graduated at the top of her class and went on to earn her Master’s degree from the University of Texas. She’s a devoted mother to our almost 4-year-old son and a loving bonus mom to our 13-year-old daughter. Additionally, Vanessa has donated much time to hotlines for women in abusive relationships and was part of Big Brother Big Sister organization, mentoring young adults for years.

Two years ago, Vanessa was diagnosed with multiple autoimmune diseases that began to aggressively attack her lungs. After countless doctor visits and worsening symptoms, we received shocking news last October. Without a double lung transplant, Vanessa would likely have only 18 to 24 months left to live.
In January, she was officially listed for transplant. And on April 22nd—thanks to the miracle of organ donation and an incredible medical team, Vanessa received a successful double lung transplant.
This surgery, while life-extending, is not a cure. Doctors made it clear, the average life expectancy post-transplant is just five years. But anyone who knows Vanessa knows she’s anything but average. She is a fighter in every sense of the word, and she’s determined to defy the odds—for herself and for our family.
However, the journey hasn’t been without complications. She was left on life support for two days as we prayed over her and was on a ventilator for four days. During surgery, both of Vanessa’s vocal cords were damaged, leaving her unable to speak. Right now, we’re working closely with specialists to explore options, which may include another surgery to restore her voice. Not being able to communicate has been incredibly difficult.

Vanessa now faces at least three months of intensive recovery, along with taking more than 20 medications every day to prevent infection and organ rejection—for the rest of her life. The financial burden of ongoing care for the rest of her life is overwhelming. Doctor visits, parking fees, medications, specialist consults, and insurance costs add up quickly.
We are humbly asking for your support. Every donation will go directly toward Vanessa’s medical expenses and give her the best possible chance at a full and meaningful recovery.

Thank you for standing with us in this fight. Above all, Your prayers and generosity mean more than we can ever say.
