Help Vanessa Fight Leukemia
Donazione protetta
Our dear friend and colleague Vanessa Cannistra was recently diagnosed with Hairy Cell Leukemia. We're starting this page to rally around her and help during a difficult time. This a rare type of blood cancer where the bone marrow produces abnormal white blood cells, which begin to crowd out red blood cells, platelets, and healthy lymphocytes.
As a beertender at Karl Strauss Brewing at Universal Citywalk, Vanessa is known for her hard work, excellent hospitality with a little Southern charm, and an infectious laugh. She is genuine and easy-going. Vanessa loves the outdoors and has an adventurous spirit.
This is not Vanessa's first time being dealt some bad cards in life. Three years ago, she was in an accident while cycling home from work. She suffered a collapsed lung, broken ribs, ruptured spleen, and nearly died from internal injuries. Her road to recovery had been long and painful. Just when she was starting to put her life back together, this comes along.
If you know Vanessa, you know she's the last person to ask for any kind of help, so we’re doing it for her. She has already missed 3 weeks of work. Initially doctors told her 5 days of chemotherapy should knock the cancerous cells down and make the disease manageable. Now they are recommending a full bone marrow transplant. She is insured, but the medical bills are piling up.
Please donate what you can to our good friend Vanessa. The best thing about the service industry is the tight bonds you form with people, the teamwork, and sense of community. Let's remind her that working at Karl Strauss is more than a job, it's belonging to the KARL FAMILY!
