My name is Vanessa. I’m a trans woman who came to Portland, Oregon so I could safely transition about a year ago. Since then it’s been a constant struggle to keep myself and my beloved cat Oliver housed and fed.
When my lease ended last week I managed to move into a new apartment, but was charged extra due to my unstable employment history since moving here. Meanwhile, my old landlord refused to prorate my last month’s rent despite forcing me out when my lease ended and is unlikely to give back my security deposit as they are unresponsive and currently embroiled in legal action from prior tenants. On top of that, I lost my job with no explanation the same week as my move in day, only a few weeks after a prior bout of unemployment.
I still believe I can make it onto my feet and find stability. If I can find some assistance with the bills accrued while moving, I can hopefully see through the incoming month’s bills and find stable work with the help of Oregon’s worksource program. I want to get my life together if only the world around me will allow it, and I hope that you will help me.
