My name is Vanessa Culver. I am a wife and a proud mother to two wonderful children, and my family is the center of my world.

In 2023, our lives changed overnight when I was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer. I underwent lifesaving surgery, and we were incredibly grateful for the care that gave me more time with my family. Unfortunately, we later learned that the cancer had metastasized. At this time, there is no cure. The focus now is on managing the disease and preserving my quality of life for as long as possible.

Living with metastatic cancer means constant monitoring and ongoing treatment. I regularly undergo MRIs, scans, blood work, and additional procedures to track the progression of the disease. I also receive a monthly injection that I will need for the rest of my life to help slow the cancer’s growth.

For a long time, this treatment was covered by our insurance. But like many families this past year, we were hit hard by insurance changes. The medication that once cost us nothing now costs more than we can afford.

Along with the cost of imaging, lab work, specialists, and procedures, the medical bills have quickly become overwhelming. We are doing everything we can to manage these expenses, but the financial burden of long-term cancer care is something no family can fully prepare for.

Reaching out like this is incredibly difficult for me. I have always believed in doing everything I can on my own before asking for help. But at this point, I have to put pride aside and ask for support so that I can continue receiving the treatment that helps keep me here with my family.
