Help Vance through this medical emergency

In 2024, Vance survived something no dog should ever have to endure-he was attacked with a machete. Thanks to the quick actions of animal rescue volunteers, he received the emergency care he needed and was given a safe place to begin healing.

Vance’s journey didn’t end there. He spent nine months in boarding, waiting for a foster home. Eventually, that home came along. An incredible family, who had opened their doors, time and time again, to dogs needing safety. This family saw exactly who Vance was: a resilient, loving dog worth every bit of time and care. They supported him through decompression, helped him build confidence, and even guided him in learning to live peacefully alongside a cat. Along the way, they fell completely in love with him.

In 2025, Vance was finally adopted by this amazing family. The dream of a forever home became a reality.

Now, Vance is facing another fight.

Over the past few days, he became unwell—losing his appetite and energy. He is currently at emergency care at Pulse Veterinary Emergency, where initial testing has shown that his red blood cells and platelets are dangerously low. He is anemic and very sick.

Veterinarians are working to determine the cause. There are concerns about a possible autoimmune condition, but cancer and other serious conditions have not yet been ruled out. He has already required a blood transfusion and may need additional transfusions, along with further diagnostics including imaging and procedures to better understand what is happening internally.

This has all happened incredibly fast, and right now the focus is on stabilizing Vance and giving him the best possible chance.

Vance’s family is doing everything they can for him. They have already walked alongside him through a long and meaningful journey—and they are not giving up on him now.

Sadly, Vance’s fight came to an end on April7, 2026. Vance was not responding to treatment and condition was worsening.

Emergency veterinary care comes with significant and rapidly increasing costs. This fundraiser is to help support Vance’s ongoing treatment so that decisions can continue to be made based on what he needs, not financial limitations.

If you’re able to contribute, it would mean so much. If not, sharing this or keeping Vance in your thoughts is equally appreciated. Some supporters have asked if they can donate directly- please contact Pulse Vet in Sherwood Park at [phone redacted].

Vance has fought his way back once before. We’re hoping he can do it again.
