"My husband (Bob) and I are currently facing a tough situation. Our home in Leland, NC (eastern NC) was flooded in 2018 in Hurricane Florence and we lost all belongings on the first floor. We were told this is a “100 year hurricane” meaning this disastrous situation would not occur within 100 years. We rebuilt our home. Well this recent “unnamed storm” has caused the same damage. Recently a cyclone with flooding water hit at 8:30 pm on 9/16/24 giving us only minutes to evacuate. We had no knowledge of the disaster/flooding until a first responder knocked on our front door. Thankfully we were able to evacuate in Bob’s truck because the water was too high to get my SUV out. My car was totaled due to the flooding. When we were able to get back to the house the next day, we waded through waist deep water and were able to salvage some personal belongings from the second floor. Everything in the first floor has been destroyed (again). There was four feet of water and our furniture was floating. We had to rescue our cats the next morning as we were unable to get the cats into their carriers during the evacuation process. We had no choice but to leave them upstairs with food and water. The next day when we returned one cat was on kitchen counter and the other on the back of the floating couch in the living room. They gladly got in the cat carriers then!
Jeanie Coles- friend and fellow coworker has taken in Bob and I for the next few months while the gutting and reconstruction of the house is done. She is a blessing in our life!"
