Dear friends and family,

As many of you may know, our beloved Valerie has recently been diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. This news has left us all in shock, as Valerie is one of the kindest and most loving souls you could ever meet. She deeply cares for her students, friends, and family, and if you know her, you understand the light she brings into our lives.

Valerie just married her love, Brian Cervin, on May 18, 2024. Their wedding was filled with joy and dreams for the future, especially their dream of starting a family. With Valerie’s diagnosis, she now faces an uphill battle that will require chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Each of these treatments comes with its own challenges and costs, and we are learning that the total financial burden is much greater than we initially anticipated.

To add to the complexity, Valerie’s treatments may jeopardize her fertility, and she will need to undergo a procedure to freeze her eggs. This is an essential step in preserving her hopes of motherhood, but it also adds significant strain to their finances.

Originally, our goal was set at $15,000 to cover the fertility treatments. However, as we navigate this uncertain journey, we’ve realized that the total costs for her medical care may far exceed that amount. Therefore, we are raising our goal to $25,000 to ensure that Valerie and Brian have the support they need as they confront these challenges.
