This is for ten-year-old Valeria, a young girl living in Tlamacazapa, Mexico. She is a patient in the Special Needs Program run by Atzin. I have followed Atzin's tremendous work in difficult circumstances in Mexico for many years.

Valeria's is one of many stories from this village that beckon attention. Her smile is hidden by a large malformation of her upper lip that is getting worse as she grows. The right surgery can hopefully fix this.

A vascular specialist in Monterrey, Mexico will assess her unusual problem, do a contrast MRI of her jaw, and start off a plan for best treatment. Valeria and her mom are scheduled to fly Monterrey twice - an exciting and scary venture for a young girl!
