Hi, my name is Martha X. Sabugo and I’m fundraising for my sweet loving girl. Never in a million years did I think I would find myself hearing a doctor on the other side of the phone say,” I’m sorry, your daughter has breast cancer.” My entire world froze as I realized this was my daughter Valentina’s new reality, but one she will not face alone. My sweet girl will be challenged by this disease but not defeated. This has been a shock for her and all of us around her.
We have had a lot of people reach out to us since Valentina opened up about her breast cancer diagnosis on how they can support her during this very anxious and scary journey, so I would like to share what’s happening and how your love, prayer and financial support can make a difference in her life.
Valentina was diagnosed with triple negative invasive ductal carcinoma back on 10/31/23 at her young age of 25. Discovering a small lump on her right breast came as a surprise and didn’t think much of it, yet she was diligent to share her discovery with me and promptly set up and appointment with her Gyn. She was referred to have an ultrasound, which turned into a mammogram, which then resulted in an aspiration needle biopsy of this mass, all completed at the diagnostic center at the same time. We were absolutely blessed by the medical director at the diagnostic facility to care for her and take the time to explain all the implications since this mass was not “looking good”. She immediately contacted the referring doctor, who consequently set up an appointment with a breast surgeon. Finding herself with so many questions, doubts, fear, and anxiety, flipping her world upside down, the uncertainty of how much this diagnosis was going to impact her life was among all the mixed-up feelings that now she will have to face.
The nerve-racking feelings continue as an MRI, an appointment with the Multi-Modality Clinic at the cancer institute and genetic testing will confirm what exactly her course of treatment was going to be. Being blessed by a negative genetic testing, the go for treatment started. Guided by her doctors now with all of us by her side and the mighty hand of God, the journey has begun.
Her plan of care will require surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. With all this ahead of her comes many challenges such as missing hours from work and facing a financial burden due to many treatments and medications that insurance will not cover. Her oncologist referred her to a fertility specialist to preserve her eggs, since the high toxicity of the chemo can have many side effects, including infertility. Having this preservation fertility treatment will help her fulfill her dream of becoming a mother when the time comes, and this cancer journey becomes a part of her past. Unfortunately, this kind of treatment is not covered by insurance. So, I’m asking for any support you can provide my sweet Valentina so that she can start this treatment as soon as possible, since there will be only a few weeks left before she is scheduled to start her chemotherapy treatment.
We appreciate all your love, prayers, and continue support in this journey that she has already conquered in the name of Jesus. I will keep you posted on how her journey is going and how your support will ease some of her worries and anxious heart.
