My name is Diego Cardona, and I am asking for your help for someone who means the world to so many of us.

At just 25 years old, my dear friend Valentina Reyes was diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer, an aggressive form of cancer that has already spread to the lymph nodes under her arm. In an instant, her life changed.

Over the next 12 to 16 months, Valentina will face an incredibly difficult journey. Before she can begin chemotherapy, she must undergo fertility preservation treatment to freeze her eggs. Chemotherapy can permanently affect a woman's fertility, making this her only opportunity to preserve the possibility of becoming a mother one day. The treatment costs approximately $10,000, a cost that is not covered by Canada's publicly funded health care system.

She will then undergo four months of intensive chemotherapy, followed by surgery to remove the cancer from her breast and the affected lymph nodes. After surgery, she will receive several weeks of radiation therapy before beginning a long recovery and, when her medical team determines she is ready, reconstructive surgery to restore the affected tissue.

Throughout this journey, Valentina will be unable to work. Our hope is that she can focus entirely on healing instead of worrying about how she will pay her rent, buy groceries, or cover everyday expenses.

Our goal is to raise $25,000.

$10,000 will help cover the cost of fertility preservation, giving Valentina the opportunity to protect her dream of one day becoming a mother.

$15,000 will help cover essential living expenses, including rent, groceries, transportation to medical appointments, medications, and other daily costs while she is unable to work.

Con tan solo 25 años, mi querida amiga Valentina Reyes fue diagnosticada con cáncer de mama en etapa III, una forma agresiva de cáncer que ya se ha extendido a los ganglios linfáticos debajo del brazo. De un momento a otro, su vida cambió por completo.

Durante los próximos 12 a 16 meses, Valentina enfrentará uno de los retos más difíciles de su vida. Antes de comenzar la quimioterapia, deberá someterse a un tratamiento para preservar su fertilidad mediante la congelación de sus óvulos. La quimioterapia puede afectar de forma permanente la capacidad de una mujer para tener hijos, por lo que esta es su única oportunidad de conservar ese sueño. Este tratamiento tiene un costo aproximado de $10,000, el cual no está cubierto por el sistema público de salud.
