My name is Vai Trask and I am a painter born and raised on Kaua’i, HI, and currently living in Tucson, AZ, having recovered from an attempted murder.
On January 1, 2017, I was beaten and thrown out of a five-story window while carrying my second child. I was living in Los Angeles and was with an extremely physically abusive and violent partner.
After suffering a broken neck, ribs, legs, arms, internal bleeding, and a lost pregnancy, I woke from a coma with nothing more than a pulverized face. I had two punctured lungs due to the inhalation of my teeth once I hit the pavement. After eight years and over 21 facial reconstructive surgeries, I am ready for my all-on-four implants to be inserted.
Unfortunately, my health insurance will not cover the costs of prosthodontics. Before I am due for my final dental implants, I must have another procedure done to remove all extra scar tissue that’s developed amidst healing from bone and skin grafting throughout the years.
It haunts me that I’m not able to close this chapter of healing until my prosthodontist receives the total amount due of $36,000. This last procedure, scheduled for 1/14/2025, will be conducted upon receipt of the first payment of $5,600. The next, and last, three appointments require $10,000 payments due before receiving the set of teeth.
This has been a long journey, and I am excited to close this door on my story. I’m eager to enjoy the peace that comes with my new face and no longer being reminded of the loss and brutality I’ve experienced.
Thank you all for all your love and support throughout this time in my life. I look forward to seeing the smile that’ll become of all this chaos. I’m ready for my son to see what his mommy really looks like.
It’s time to finish this.
