Help Vai Fitness Overcome This Vandalism

Donation protected
We are Silvia Giamanco and Michael Gilligan, co-owners of Vai Fitness in Cortex Hill, near downtown San Diego. Vai Fitness, along with countless other small businesses has been struggling to survive through this Corona virus crisis. We are so grateful for all the support we have received so far.

We are as eager to get back to the studio as we know you are! We have been conducting virtual fitness classes and as you know, when Silvia is not on on Zoom, she is baking cakes, quiches and bread and making pasta to sell to keep Vai Fitness viable. Meanwhile, we have been anxiously waiting to learn about how and when we could reopen and get together again.

While we are continuing the fight and hope to emerge from this eventually, things continue to be very challenging. We did not receive any small business assistance. We are currently working with our landlord for a rent reduction that will allow us to continue in business in this new economic reality.

And now we have been hit with another severe blow to overcome. While we were planning to make the modifications to hopefully open soon, on the night of May 31, 2020, five large panels of our glass were smashed, likely with a baseball bat. As of now, our insurance company has denied our claim and we have had to hire an attorney to deal with the insurance. These windows will be very expensive to replace as they are very large and each is a different shape, requiring custom made windows.  Even if we are able to establish coverage, we will face a very large out of pocket expense due to the deductible and co-insurance.

We have worked very hard over the years to help our studio and the community thrive. When our doors were opened to the community, we were able to offer personalized workouts, group classes, and social gatherings focusing on the health and well-being of all members. We are dedicated to our clients so they can obtain their fitness goals. We have an incredible clientele and the studio has a tremendously friendly, neighborhood atmosphere. Many of our clients have become good friends with not only us but with each other, referred to as the "Vai Family".

We wants to continue to bring our valuable services to the community but significantly reduced revenue, mounting rents, and now this senseless vandalism threatening to force our studio to close for good.

We are therefore reaching out to our friends, clients, supporters and the community to help us raise some money to help us to hopefully overcome the twin blows of pandemic and vandalism that seriously threaten Vai Fitness.

Thank you for your support.
