Help Vadim Get Rehab

Donation protected
Vadim was visiting my family over the holidays. He was staying with my grandpa for a bit and was an angel that helped around the house and helped with my 90 year old grandfather. We rung in the new year together, excited that Vadim was with our family.

On Sunday, January 2nd, my mom decided last minute to stop by my grandfather's house to drop something off even though she initially wasn't planning on visiting that day. She walked into the house and found my grandfather sleeping. She started calling for Vadim, and found him collapsed on the couch. The first thought was Covid or stomach bug, but after realizing that he couldn't move his right arm or leg and that his speech was slurred, it was apparent that we were dealing with something more serious. We immediately called an ambulance and they confirmed that he was paralyzed on the right side of his body.

Vadim was whisked to the hospital, where they confirmed he had an acute infarct (stroke). When he arrived, his right side was completely paralyzed, his speech was severely impacted, and he was unable to swallow. We later realized that the event happened several hours before he was found. We also found out that he collapsed in the living room and crawled to the kitchen to turn off the stove because he realized there was something cooking in the kitchen. He then crawled to another room and dragged himself up on the couch where he was found.

Vadim was visiting here alone, without any family. His family is in Kiev and unable to come due to visa restrictions and Covid. Vadim also does not have medical insurance to cover the expenses that he has already incurred and will incur as he begins his recovery journey. He will need rehab for several months moving forward and home care to help with daily life. Vadim helped our family with my grandfather and we grew connected to him in the process.

Our hope is to raise money to help Vadim pay for an acute rehab center, which is the type of rigorous rehab that he needs for the next couple of weeks.

Vadim, his family, and our family, can use any help that you can offer as we work to get him back on his feet.

We are hopeful and truly grateful for any support.
