Help My Sister Rebuild After the St. Louis Tornado

My name is Idara Umana, and I’m raising funds for my sister Uyama Umana-Hollinshed and her wife Vanessa Hollinshed, who tragically lost their beautiful dream home during the devastating tornado that struck St. Louis on May 16, 2025.

After working with their own hands to lovingly restore this home over seven years, they had only just moved in—less than a year ago.

Their home, located on historic Kensington Avenue, was completely wiped out in minutes. Years of sacrifice, family memories, and their long-held vision were reduced to rubble.

By God’s grace, no lives were lost. Uyama and Vanessa were not home at the time, and the family dogs—whom we alternate care for—were with us that week. Lives were spared. But the loss is still deep.

This isn’t just about a house.

This is about legacy.

This was a home passed down through generations in a historically Black neighborhood—now destroyed, condemned, and at risk of erasure.

We’re raising funds to help them:

• Rebuild or relocate with dignity

• Replace essential items and irreplaceable sentimental belongings

• Cover emergency housing, clothing, transportation, and recovery costs

• Preserve a family legacy that deserves to live on

While they were still in shock—outsiders were already circling, asking if they wanted to sell their land.

The same night the storm hit.
