If you know me, you know Roscoe. He has been my best friend since I was 9 years old, and everyone I meet is instantly shown pictures of him. He’s been struggling for a while now, slowly on the decline. A few years ago, we got over the initial hurdles of his first run-ins with chronic illness. Until recently, he has been very happy and healthy.
A little over a month ago, Mac and I came home to one of Roscoe’s front legs being limp. He couldn't walk but didn't seem to be in any pain. We rushed him to the vet, and they informed us that most likely, he would not get better, and we would need to put him down within the week. We were devastated, preparing for the worst, desperately savoring our last days with him. I had never felt such pain.
Somehow, the next day, he was walking again. And I felt hope. I saw a glimmer in him, in his sleepy face. He got better until finally, he was walking normally. We brought him back to the vet, and by the grace of the universe, it felt like everything was going to be okay. We put him on medication to prevent blood clots and decided to bring him in for a very in-depth exam as soon as we can.
Mac and I have been trying to pull together the money for the exams since, and although at first it seemed like Roscoe was doing fine, he's slowly getting worse. I found a lump on his head, and one of his eyes is more dilated than the other. He sleeps all day. We have to carry him to his food bowl.
Every day feels like it could be his last. I can't sleep at night. If there's any chance at all that we can figure out what's going on and what we can do to fix it, I will do anything to make it happen. I'm sincerely begging for your help.
