Help Us with Henry’s Health Transformation

Donation protected
Henry Birth’s joyous wide-toothed smile can change your day, paired with his infectious laugh and enthusiasm for every aspect of life. A day without Henry is truly a day without sunshine.

Our friend Henry, age 25, is the light of his community!
Everyone knows him, and if he knows you, he loves you.

He is a graduate of Atlantic County Special Services
High School, an accomplished equestrian at HEARTS Therapeutic Riding Center, a Special Olympics bowling athlete, a trained boxer, a talented dancer, an eager monster truck lover (Grave Digger is his favorite), a lover of Nickelback music, stuffed animals and the Wiggles.

His mom Robin adopted him at the age of three, and their journey has been filled with health challenges which are made bearable because of Henry’s indomitable love and spirit.

Recently, he had emergency abdominal surgeries which resulted in an extended stay and the addition of an ostomy bag to relieve pressure on this digestive system. Henry is slowly on his way to recovery, and Henry’s mother Robin is doing an amazing job.

Robin is taking a family leave to nurse Henry back to health, so donations for Henry’s care at home would be greatly appreciated.

Henry’s Day Program Directors at Creative Gardeners Candace Negron and Cheryl Mitchell believe that helping Henry will help everyone feel better.

“Henry is a miracle! So happy that he is doing better. When I saw him, honestly, I held back tears. Robin gave us the greenlight, and said she is usually not on the receiving end, but it would ease her mind about the mounting bills. We all know how they sometimes haunt us.”

Robin wanted to update everyone on Henry this week.

“Overall, he's doing well, but as his surgeon told us previously, this is a marathon, not a sprint,” Robin admits.

“Henry's abdominal incision is still healing, but is improving. We're working on him gaining back the over 25 pounds he lost in the hospital and his overall strength as well.

This is challenging, because of the Ileostomy, which unfortunately puts out almost as much as Henry consumes. And although we still hope that his Ileostomy can be reversed, the soonest that can happen is 6 -9 months.

And that would be another surgery, to re-connect his colon to his digestive tract.” Currently we only have a nurse for his wound care. She comes 2x/week, for an hour. I'm doing the rest of Henry's care, including getting up every 2 hours throughout the night, to check on his ostomy bag, to either drain it, or release the gas, so that it doesn't leak on him.

We're trying to get nursing, but we all know how that goes!” “I'm grateful to be able to care for him, and that my Mom is here a lot for company, to help cook, and for me to shower and run errands.

Overall, Henry is happy, although he misses all his friends, and all the fun activities he used to do.
Once his incision is fully healed, we plan on gradually getting back into things.

Keep sending positive vibes for him, because he sure deserves every happiness in the world.

“We have all missed Henry at Creative Gardeners Adult Day Program!” sighs Program Director Candace Negron.

“Each young adult in our day program feels like the days are less joyful when Henry is not here. You see, Stephen misses joking around with Henry. Yasmin misses exercising with Henry- He is a real motivator!!”, Candace continues.

“Gracie and Kyle miss singing, Nickelback songs with Henry, Felix misses talking about all the monster trucks with Henry.

We all miss Henry‘s contagious smile, his loving hugs and big heart ❤️ towards everyone he meets!”

“Thank you, Robin for all you do sharing Henry with us all! We will continue to pray for his health and healing!” Cheryl Mitchell and Candace of Creative Gardeners are asking that we all help Henry on his journey to healing so that he can return to his day program and his other activities in the community.

Can you help Henry and Robin get back to enjoying life together?
