Help Launch a Trans-Led Economic Lifeline in Uganda
£3,000 can help build safer, dignified livelihoods for trans and non‑binary entrepreneurs who are being shut out of everything else.
My name is Helmut. I’m a trans, non-binary, queer founder and the creator of Trans+ Learning Lab CIC, a UK social enterprise delivering life‑changing education, financial skills, and leadership training to gender‑diverse people in challenging contexts.
I started this work before we had funding because the need is now.
Even in full bootstrap mode, we’re already creating real change.
What we’re building — right now
We’re proudly partnering with the grassroots organisation Tranz Network Uganda, co‑designing a by‑and‑for trans and non‑binary entrepreneurship incubator in the Kampala region.
This is not a charity handout.
This is economic power, skills, and long‑term independence.
Our trainings are led locally by Mama Mityana, a trans woman, community leader, and entrepreneur serving as Trans+ Learning Lab’s Uganda Lead Steward. Together with Tranz Network Uganda, she is co‑leading an innovative pilot that strengthens TNU’s long‑running Trans Resilience and Economic Empowerment Programme (TREE).
The incubator will be:
- 100% free for participants
- Inclusive of hot meals, transport, and all learning costs
- Designed by and for trans and gender‑diverse people
- Rooted in safety, dignity, and lived experience
After the course, participants continue receiving long‑term mentoring and safe, discreet investor introductions.
Why this matters so much
Uganda is currently a living nightmare for queer people.
Trans and non‑binary folks are locked out of mainstream business education not because they lack talent, but because they cannot access safe, accepting spaces to learn and grow.
Economic education is survival.
Entrepreneurship can mean safety, autonomy, and a future.
This project is designed to be ongoing and sustainable; not a one‑off, not a quick fix, but a trusted launchpad toward more secure livelihoods.
What your donation makes possible
I’m trying to raise at least £3,000 to make this work sustainable by paying Mama Mityana a fair, ethical wage for her leadership.
That funding goes toward:
- £399 per month for 9 months (£3,591 total)
- Co‑designing the curriculum
- Delivering specialist trainings
- Mentoring entrepreneurs during and six months beyond the pilot
Your support ensures this isn’t extractive, rushed, or precarious but rooted in care, fairness, and long‑term impact.
This is our moment.
We are so close to launch.
The joy is real... and so is the fear of not having enough to sustain it.
If you believe trans people deserve safe access to skills, capital, and dignity, please consider supporting this work. Every contribution helps turn this pilot into something lasting - for Trans+ Learning Lab and for Tranz Network Uganda.
Donate if you can. Share if you can’t.
And follow along as trans and non‑binary entrepreneurs build futures out of poverty and toward independence.
From my heart - thank you.
