My name is Jonas and I am a 15-year-old ballet dancer from Salt Lake City, Utah. I have been studying at Ballet West Academy since 2nd grade and my dream is to be a professional dancer one day.
This past spring I had the opportunity to compete at the Youth America Grand Prix Finals in NYC where in addition to placing Top 12 in the Senior Men division and 3rd in the Pas de Deux category, I was also offered a spot at the prestigious Royal Ballet School in London for the upcoming school year. It is an incredible honor to be chosen to be part of this program and after putting much thought into it I strongly believe the Royal Ballet School is the right place for me to continue my dance education.
I am fortunate to have been offered a partial scholarship which makes it possible for my family to cover the school's tuition. However, as an international student I will have rather high travel expenses in addition to the fees for the student visa to the UK. Because of the term schedule I am hoping to fly home to see my family four times throughout the school year which will cost roughly $6,000. In addition, the student visa cost comes in at another $1,000.
Dancing has always been a part of my life. I love performing on stage and enjoy the daily challenge of pushing myself to the limit as an athlete and an artist. I believe moving to London to study at the Royal Ballet School will help me become the best dancer I can possibly be!
