Hey, I'm Jose Alejandro Cevallos, and I reach you on behalf of my family in a heavy-hearted effort to gather funds for my mom's cancer treatment. Her name is Mariela Espinoza, and at the start of March this year, she took notice of a lump on her breast. After getting it checked, we were told by doctors it was a benign mass and its subsequent extraction was non-invasive, although during the procedure another lump was detected. Further complementary tests were ordered to determine the lump´s origin. Later on, March 18, results for the complementary tests came in, and after being checked by doctors, they agreed it was a malignant and aggressive tumor, diagnosing my mom with triple-negative breast cancer.

Through that diagnosis, we were also informed this type of tumor has a high tendency to spread through the body, and as such, it couldn't be directly extirpated and my mom would have to undergo a first instance chemotherapy treatment plan consisting of 16 chemo sessions, and then surgery to determine whether the treatment has to be prolonged, changed, or finalized.

The procedure to get my mom admitted into SOLCA would take months, but due to the tumor´s harsh nature, treatment was to be started with as much immediacy as possible.

So, with little to no time to spare, we opted to start treatment through means of a private institution. As of now, she's already gone through 3 of the 16 planned chemos, and under God's favor, we've seen favorable progress on her illness. This stage of treatment in addition to other necessary exams have been paid for with help from close friends and family, people to whom we are eternally grateful to.

My mom would help children going through the same illness and their families in any way she could, having always been a woman who held social labor and her connection to God very close to her heart. We as her family only wish for the world to show her through these difficult times the same love and kindness she's given out during her life. She's strong, and she's still very much attentive to her kids and grandkids, but even as she fights against it, treatment is intense and has undeniably been taking its toll on her both physically and mentally.
No one ever thinks of being in such a situation, and realistically, nothing can ever prepare you for what a diagnosis like this entails.

I speak once again on behalf of me and my family when I tell you there's not a single day in which we don't fear for my mom's future, we live in profound uncertainty with this illness, and her state is greatly unstable, as one day she may be alright and the next crying at the pain elicited from her health condition.

Our aim now is to fund and complete my mother's treatment, she still has 13 chemos to go, added to surgery, and what treatment options doctors agree upon after surgery. Coupled with mandatory exams she needs to have done after each round of chemo. And we've run out of funds. My dad and brothers are under immense pressure as they give their all trying to get more and more money for my mom's treatment, but it's simply not enough. My mom doesn't have any private insurance, and she also doesn't have insurance from the IESS institution.

We are in great need of your financial contribution to pay for the treatment costs, anything you're willing to spare to help us, I assure you no matter how little it may seem, it all counts. Even if you only share, it's already a huge contribution for us.

You can also help by donating directly to my account in Ecuador, it's a savings account that belongs to Banco de Guayaquil # 49305392 it's under my name José Alejandro Cevallos, with ID # 0941217481.

We sincerely thank you all for your help.
