Eight donkeys, once used and mis-treated in Mijas Pueblo, are finally safe. Each one arrived suffering—both physically and emotionally. But their rescue is only the beginning. Right now, they urgently need your help to heal — body and soul.

Their hooves were severely neglected, causing intense pain, laminitis and other serious health issues. They were in urgent need of dental care—some had rotten or infected teeth that needed to be removed immediately.

But the trauma goes beyond the physical. These donkeys flinch at sudden movements and shy away from human touch, clearly expecting pain. The fear in their eyes tells us just how much they've endured.

Their recovery will be a long journey—but we're already seeing signs of hope. They’re beginning to trust, allowing us to treat their wounds and showing the first glimpses of curiosity and calm. What might seem like small steps are, for them, monumental.

However, this journey is not only slow— it is also expensive.

Basic care for each donkey costs between €1500,- and €2000,- and that’s just the start. This includes transportation, hoof x-rays, their first hoof trimming, initial dental treatment, vaccinations, anto parasite treatment and castration. Most will undergo chemical castration due to age and health risks, while a younger donkey—just five years old- will be castrated by surgery.

These costs don’t even include medications for pain relief, anti-inflammatory treatments or the professional training needed to help them heal emotionally.

With these eight new rescues, we have reached our full capacity. But we couldn’t turn our backs on them. Now more than ever, they need your support.
