Hi, I'm Debbie Black and I have spent the last 13 years feeding, caring for and neutering the street cats of Canillas de Aceituno.
In March of this year the Mayor took over paying for the neutering of the cats. That has been an enormous help. Now a group of us assist him by feeding the cats, trapping them, driving them to the Vet, collecting them, and returning them at our own expense. We maintain the traps and replace as necessary.
Between us we feed 270 cats every day. At present virtually all of this food is paid for by the group members themselves. As you can imagine this is an enormous expense. However we prefer to pay for this ourselves, rather than take money from the fund which could help sick or injured cats.
We also take sick and injured cats to the Vet. In 2025 we have so far taken 24 sick or injured cats for treatment at a total cost of 960 euros. Another five cats had to be euthanised at a cost of 440 euros.
On a happier note this year we have spent 600 euros preparing cats for adoption. This has covered blood tests, vaccinations and in some cases foster expenses prior to adoption. It is so wonderful to be able to lift a cat out of his tough life on the street, when we find him a home of his own.
We hope that next year the Mayor will consider helping our group with these expenses. As things stand at present, we have no choice but to ask again for your donations to help us to help the cats. It's extra important in this bitter weather that the cats are fed every day and treated for any health problems or injuries.
We would really appreciate your gift large or small to help the Canillas community cats through the winter. Thank you.
