Dear friends,

Like so many people today, we were caught in the endless cycle of modern work: overworked, stressed and burned out. At our lowest point we realised something had to change. We longed for a place where we could reconnect with nature, help it recover, and breathe deeply again, and where others could do the same. That is how Project Hayah was born. Hayah means "Life".

And now the first step is done. We have found our place, a beautiful and magical piece of land in central Portugal, and the purchase is complete.

Who we are, and why this matters

We are Ioana and Midou, a couple in our 30s who met in Freiburg. Ioana grew up in Italy and works as a primary school teacher. She is training to teach children's yoga and lives her creativity through art and DIY projects. Midou has lived in Austria and Poland, works in a German startup making education more accessible, and dives with Project A.W.A.R.E. to protect marine life. From the day we met we shared the same dream: to bring abandoned land back to life and to build a place where people can heal and reconnect.

That dream is also an answer to something urgent. In August 2025 the largest wildfire in Portugal's history burned more than 64,000 hectares in 11 days, and it reached the very region where our land now lies. Much of this destruction begins with abandoned land. The older generation can no longer clear it, the younger generation has left for the cities, and land that nobody tends dries out and becomes fuel for the next fire.

Our vision is simple: take a forgotten piece of land, bring back its soil and its trees, and make it a place where people can rest, share a meal and breathe again.

Where we are now

The land is completely wild. Nobody has cared for it in many years, and everything on it grows dense and dry, which in this part of Portugal means it is ready to burn.

One thing on it works: a single pipe bringing water down from the mine. That is all. No electricity, no access for machines, no tools, and nowhere we could live through the coming months.

We have the land. We do not yet have what it takes to work it. That is what this campaign is for.

What we need ❤️

Buying the land took everything we had, our savings and a loan on top of them. That part is ours to carry. What comes next we cannot do alone, and it has to happen in this order:

1. Tools to clear the land. Brush-cutters, a chainsaw, hand tools, safety gear. Nothing else can start before this, and clearing is also the best fire protection we can give ourselves and our neighbours.

2. Machine work. An excavator to open access and shape the ground so that water is held instead of lost.

3. Solar power. There is no electricity here. Panels and batteries are what make it possible to work and eventually to live on the land.

4. Water beyond that one pipe. Storage, distribution, and keeping water in the soil.

5. Then the rebuilding. Securing the ruins, regenerating the soil, planting the first trees.

Every euro raised here goes into this list, in this order, into the work on the land and nothing else. We will show you exactly where it goes.

How you can help ❤️

Donate. However small the amount, it turns into a tool, a tree, a solar panel.

Share our story with anyone who cares about land, trees or a quieter way of living. A few words from you travel further than anything we could write about ourselves.

Come and give us a hand. Everyone is welcome, whether you have donated or not, for a day or for a season, to help, to teach us something or to learn with us. We are still building the basics, so coming with your own van makes it easier. Write to us and we will find a way.

Follow the journey at www.hayah.eco and on on Instagram @hayah.eco

One day there will be retreats and workshops here, and when that day comes you are all invited. We are proud to be part of the .eco community, which stands for transparency and ecological responsibility.

Come as you are, reconnect with nature, and remember what truly matters in life.

With gratitude and love ❤️

# [DE Version]

Liebe Freunde,

So entstand Projekt Hayah. Hayah bedeutet „Leben“.

Was wir brauchen ❤️

Ioana & Midou
