Hi! My name is Yanik Staley. I am trying to raise funds to help us get through these next few months. Nikki is our 14 year old daughter she was diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of 2. She has went through 2 bouts of chemotherapy and one bout of radiation. She had beaten that tumor by the age of 4, but at the cost of her short term memory, the ability to walk and fine motor skills, her speech was affected also. Nikki made it to almost 5 years and she had a small tumor return and went under treatment with a gamma knife that also went well, Nikki beat that tumor also. Nikki worked hard to regain her everyday skills, she got to 5 word sentences, learned to push herself in a regular wheelchair, learned to drive an electric wheelchair with out to many mishaps. She was finally really enjoying and improving on her every day life. Then covid-19 hit we all worked hard to keep her from getting it and we had prevailed but her yearly MRI had been pushed back and back so Nikki didn't have one for 3 years. When Nikki did get an MRI it showed she had another tumor half the size of a ping-pong ball on the top left of her brain. She went in for another gamma knife treatment on July 20th. 2023. All had went well until August 13th. she had woken up with a fever of 101.0, we gave her motrin and Tylenol to bring it down but with in two hours time it had risen to 102.6 and we called the ambulance to transport her to the hospital. we live an hour away from the hospital that normally takes care of Nikki. half way to the hospital Nikki stoped breathing and her temperature increased to 106. The awesome ambulance personal quickly made the decision to divert to the nearest hospital, there Nikki was intubatied and put on a ventilation machine. they got her stable and had her flown to Brenners in Winston salem. Once Nikki was there they quickly worked on her. They had found she was in septic shock they did an MRI and also found she has had 3 strokes in different parts of her brain. Nikki has had a few thouch and go moments while here in the hospital but she is making small improvements. we are going on our 4th week here in the hospital, Nikki can look around and move her left arm a little at this time. Nikki's left lung keeps giving us a fight it wants to fill up with fluid, Nikki's right leg cracked during a diaper change due to her bones being week because she can't walk. they just put 3 screws in it to stabilize it. We need help with our bills as we have been out of work during this time spent with our beautiful baby Nikki. Nikki is probably looking at another 2 to 4 weeks in the hospital and depending on her recovery some longer term care at home. Thank you for your time, and reading this. any little bit helps. Have a wonderful day!!
