First let me say I don’t want to do this and by all means please do not contribute if it would cause any suffering or discomfort to you and yours. I only started this because as of June 12th, I’ve exhausted all of my paid work leave. My wife of 33 years, Nancy, is critically ill (she suffers from End Stage Renal Disease and in the last three years has survived breast cancer and having to have a pacemaker installed to keep her heart going) and as of today (June 30th) she’s been unable to recover from a surgery in early June. She has been in the hospital the entire month and in the Intensive Care Unit since June 11th and I have been at her side the whole time, not just for support but because I’ve been called upon repeatedly to make the decisions she can’t. But because I’ve exhausted all of my paid leave at work and because years into Nancy’s illness our savings are gone our retirement accounts are empty, I no longer have the financial cushion I did when this all started. So going a month without my salary will be extremely difficult if not impossible. I’m setting a goal for what is essentially my monthly state employee take-home pay. I am hopeful that in a couple of weeks she will be able to come home and I can return to work. If so I will end this campaign early. Thank you.
