OUR STORY:

Hello! Our names are Daisy, Beth, Nathan, Emma, and James, and we are students from James Madison University producing The Good Mother, a powerful dramatic short film that unfolds through grounded realism and intimate dialogue. The story follows Charlotte, a 20 something year old in New York City, whose routine grocery trip is derailed when she impulsively buys a pregnancy test. What begins as a quiet crisis spirals into a transformative encounter with a mysterious and intriguing older woman in a café—Jill, a former art curator with a complicated history of motherhood. As Charlotte confronts the impending possibility of an unplanned pregnancy, her conversation with Jill forces her to reflect on womanhood, ambition, and the unseen weight of choices. Set against the backdrop of New York’s diverse streets, The Good Mother captures a fleeting moment that may change one woman’s future forever.
