Help us take our show Yellow to the Edinburgh Fringe

Donation protected
Hello!

We are a group of theatre practitioners with a dream of taking our show to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2025.

The Fringe is the world’s biggest performance festival. In 2024, festival goers bought more than 2.5 million tickets for more than 3,500 different shows from 60 countries. For a group like ours, the Fringe is an incredibly exciting opportunity to show our work to a new audience and to meet and learn from other artists.

But putting on a show at the Fringe is expensive. Our total production costs come to about €8,000. That includes the costs of venue hire, publicity and set, as well as other essentials like insurance and Fringe registration.

So far, we have raised the first €6,000 through a new production company, the Cross-Gartered Players. We are looking for your help to cover the remainder.

Who are we?

Our multinational team, with at least eight nationalities between us, includes Yorgos, Heli, Peter, Ilona, Neale, Aravind and Janet on the stage and Geoff, Cath, Maja, Jeremy, Andrew, Peter and many others behind the scenes.

Geoff (our writer and director) first went to the Edinburgh Fringe in 1995 with a Cambridge University show that was shortlisted for the Guardian International Student Drama Award, and has always dreamed of going back with his own show. He has whiled away the intervening three decades working in a range of careers, from City lawyer to political speechwriter.

Heli (playing Rosie) is making her second trip to the Fringe, after taking her solo comedy show to Edinburgh in 2024. She was so proud to survive the first round that she had no hesitation in plunging right into another Fringe - not alone this time, but with a great group of fellow creatives (she means us!) When she's not acting, Heli also runs and hosts the bi-weekly Funny Women Brussels show.

Yorgos (playing Mal) has this to say about Yellow:

"Should you punish yourself for your mistakes forever? Are they even yours? Could you forgive yourself and the world by buying a lorryload of something? Come and find out with us. None of us will sing". A great relief there for everyone!

Our show

Geoff started writing Yellow in 2020. The play brings together Geoff’s love of Shakespeare with his experiences of the ups and downs of life in law and politics, to create a story that is somewhere between Twelfth Night and The Thick of It.

Mal, played by Yorgos, was once a senior ministerial adviser. Now, after his disgrace, he defends fraudsters in a shabby law firm. Rosie, played by Heli, is an idealistic young lawyer who offers him a way back to his old life. But in a world where the highest ideals are sustained by the grubbiest actions, what looks like redemption might be a trap.

The play was first produced at the Brussels Shakespeare Society Summer Festival in 2022, and then at the Festival of European Anglophone Theatrical Societies (FEATS) in Bad Homburg, Germany, in 2023, where it secured two best actor nominations, for Yorgos as Mal and Peter as Tony.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if you make a profit?

It’s very hard to make a profit at the Edinburgh Fringe! But any profit we do make will go partly to help defray the massive cost of accommodation in Edinburgh for the cast and crew, and partly to continue to fund the Cross-Gartered Players as a home for new writing in Brussels and beyond.

I’ve always wanted to visit the Edinburgh Fringe! Can I come and see the show?

Yes! Yellow will be on at theSpace @ Niddry Street from 11-17 August 2025 at 12.40pm and 18-23 August at 12.15pm. You can buy tickets here.

I can’t make it to the Fringe! Can I see you anywhere else?

Yes! If you’re around Brussels in early July you can see us at the Warehouse Studio Theatre on 3-5 July 2025 at 8pm. The bar will be open after the show so you can chat with the cast and crew about Yellow and our journey to the Fringe. You can buy tickets here.
