Help Us Take Flight- Accipiter Dance Jumpstart
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Brianna Pilkinton and I'm the founder of Accipiter Dance, a fledgling group of dancers and collaborators who investigate the parallels of the natural world and the human experience through the art of contemporary dance. Accipiter Dance is dedicated to making and curating performance art that encourages dialogue and a deeper inquiry into oneself and our role as inhabitants and custodians of planet Earth. You can read about us at accipiterdance.com. The only barrier for us to take flight is financial.
This initial fundraiser will help me to pay for the cost of renting rehearsal space and booking performance venues, basic startup costs like our website and marketing, a good speaker for outdoor shows, and most importantly, it will go towards paying the hardworking professional dancers who turn my ideas into reality.
About me: I've been teaching, dancing, and choreographing in the San Diego region for over 15 years. I am also a professional environmental scientist, so my choreographic interests lean toward ecology, environment, and advocating for the unique biodiversity of San Diego County. My dancemaking process is based on reading, scientific research, reflection, and fun. I value the connections formed through collaboration with other artists and organizations that share the values of Accipiter Dance.
About the name: I chose the name "Accipiter" because it refers to the genus of birds of prey that are among the swiftest and most skillful fliers. Accipiter hawks evoke ideas of speed, dexterity, and stillness. These movement qualities are embodied in the work of Accipiter Dance. Also, I'm obsessed with birds.
Thank you for your generosity and kindness in helping us take flight!
