Help Us Tackle the Unwanted Cat Population in Kleindale

Together, We Can Make a Difference

Kleindale, located on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, is a beautiful yet remote community. Like many rural areas, we’re experiencing the negative effects of an expanding cat population. While many of these cats are beloved pets, there are also many homeless, abandoned, and feral cats. Without a structured spay and neuter program, the number of unwanted cats continues to grow, leading to an increase in suffering, predation, and strain on local shelters.

We’re reaching out to ask for your support in launching a spay and neuter program to address this growing issue in our community. Our goal is to raise $12,000 to fund essential spay and neuter services for local cats. With your help, we can reduce the number of unwanted cats, improve their well-being, and give these animals a better chance at healthier lives.

How this came to be:
Rob Goulette, a longtime volunteer with the SPCA and a passionate advocate for animal welfare, is leading this effort in collaboration and with support of local veterinarians, pet owners, and the Sunshine Coast SPCA. After witnessing too many cats living in unsafe, unhealthy conditions, including a litter of kittens found abandoned in a garbage bin - we knew something had to be done.

Our 3-Step Plan
To address the problem at its source, we’ve developed a 3-part approach:

  • Rescue & Surrender: We are identifying homeless cats and working with the SPCA to have them surrendered for adoption.
  • Pet Owner Outreach: We’re connecting with local pet owners who have unspayed or unneutered cats to encourage participation in the program.
  • Spay & Neuter Program: We will prioritize neutering male cats first, to prevent further litters, followed by spaying females.

How You Can Help
The cost of these life-saving procedures can be prohibitively expensive for many families in our community. That’s where your generosity comes in. By donating, you can help us provide spay and neuter services to cats in need. Through partnerships with local vets and the SPCA, we are working hard to get the best possible rates for these procedures.

Where We Stand
So far, 17 homeless cats have been surrendered to the SPCA for adoption, with another one on its way today. Additionally, 22 more cat owners in the community (8 male cats and 14 females) have agreed to have their pets spayed/neutered. We are ready to move to phase 3 of the program- beginning the operations. We are dependent on your help to make this project a reality .

How Your Donation Will Make a Difference
Your contribution will directly fund:
  • Spay and Neuter Surgeries
  • Pre- and Post-Operative Care, including medications, flea treatment, vaccinations, and follow-up treatments to ensure a safe recovery

Why This Campaign Matters
1. Fighting Overpopulation
Every year, many kittens are born in our community, many of whom do not survive the harsh conditions of life on their own. By spaying and neutering local cats, we can stop this cycle and significantly reduce the number of unwanted animals.
2. Protecting Local Wildlife
Feral and unspayed cats pose a threat to local wildlife, including birds, small mammals, and reptiles. Reducing the cat population helps protect our native species. Additionally, there have been increased sightings of coyotes and bobcats, which pose dangers to local pets and livestock, such as backyard chickens.
3. Improving Cat Health
Spaying and neutering provide numerous health benefits for cats, including a lower risk of certain cancers and infections. It also reduces aggressive behavior and the likelihood of territorial disputes, leading to healthier, more peaceful communities for both cats and humans.

Every donation, no matter the size, will make a real impact on the lives of these cats.

Whether you’re an animal lover or simply someone who wants to help make our community a better place for all living beings, your generosity will change the lives of these animals forever.

Stay Connected
We’ll keep you updated on the progress of the project and let you know how your donations are making a difference. Your support means the world to us. Every donation $10, $20 or whatever you are able to spare is greatly appreciated - and brings us one step closer towards another surgery.

Thank you for helping give these cats a chance at a better life.
