We are two disabled mentally ill qtpoc trying to to survive houselessness in the summer. Capitalism and this damn heat is trying to tear us apart!
This heat is putting our lives at at risk. As our van becomes hotter and hotter it becomes harder to live in. In the past we have fainted from overheating because the van acts as an oven getting hot as early as
7am, we've struggled with breathing even at night, and we have experienced an increase of panic attacks and other episodes. Not having insulation, or an air vent /fan can potentially kill us. This morning Bee nearly had a heat stroke! The heat combined with the lack of oxygen coming in is pretty harmful.
On top of that, we've been struggling to make the monthly payments for the van or insurance and are afraid of having it repossessed. If this happens, we will be on the street which we want to prevent because we will have to deal with even more police brutality, homophobia, transphobia , etc, and can potentially be murdered. also it will definitely worsen Diggz's PTSD and psychosis. The reason we moved into the van was to be shielded from this violence and to create a more independent life as disabled people.
Thankfully, we currently have shelter during the day but our days here are limited as we were only allowed to stay temporarily. There is no way we can make it out alive once we move forward.
This is why we are turning to our communities for help. We cannot do this without you. Diggz's disability case was postponed again, for the third time. Bee is currently unemployed and looking for work but was told I need a doctor's admittance before being permitted to work which my therapist doesn't want to write for me because she knows Im not ready to work again. For now, we depend on one source of income that we must stretch beyond its capacity in order to survive.
Here is a breakdown of where the donations will go
1) monthly payment$ 500
Fan or air conditioning $50
generator $200
storage containers and other miscellaneous items $100
insurance $200
We are also accepting donations for:
-food/ walmart gift cards
- storage bins
-cooling pillows/ blankets
-water
-clothes
-generator
-cleaning/hygiene products
-all basic needs things
Thank you so much for your support. Please share and/ or donate if you have the capacities too. We are so thankful we have such an amazing and caring community. XOXOXO and *raspberries*
