On Sunday afternoon while out for a walk, Demi’s beautiful 3 year old girl Swiftie unknowingly ingested methamphetamine, something no pet owner ever imagines could happen.

What started as a terrifying evening quickly became a critical veterinary emergency. Since then, Swiftie has spent the past 5 days in ICU fighting severe neurological symptoms and complications from the toxicity, including tremors, difficulty walking, a UTI, the need for oxygen support, sedation, constant monitoring, intensive veterinary care and now ongoing specialist intervention and surgery.

Due to the severity of her symptoms and prolonged ICU stay, vets believe Swiftie consumed a significant amount, making her recovery far more complex and ongoing than anyone initially expected.

Swiftie is still so young and has always been the sweetest, most loving and energetic girl, which has made watching her go through this even more devastating. One normal Sunday walk changed everything in a matter of hours and Demi has been doing everything she can to give Swiftie the best possible chance at recovery.

Even with pet insurance - the constant nights in ICU, medication, sedation, x-rays, tests, oxygen support and ongoing treatment have resulted in extremely high veterinary costs.

If there were any remaining funds after Swiftie’s treatment we would donate them to the Australian Companion Animal Health Foundation (ACAHF), which funds research into diseases affecting dogs and cats.
