Family and friends,
On Friday, October 10th, our world flipped upside down. For the past couple of months, my wife, Laquontia (Quonie to some Tia to others), had been experiencing what we thought were signs of perimenopause. We went to the doctor’s, 4 days earlier expecting answers, maybe some lifestyle adjustments—but instead, we were told to get some labs and check back in 6 weeks. On Friday the 10th, Quonie sent the results to my sister, who is a nurse, she told us “her hemoglobin was low and that she needed to go to the ER for a blood transfusion.” So we went.
After a series of tests—blood work, X-rays, CT scans—we were hit with words no one ever wants to hear: “We believe that you have colon cancer.”
Those words stopped time for us. They changed everything.
We’re now navigating a reality that feels both surreal and sacred—the hard work of fighting for healing while still trying to keep life steady. As many of you know, medical expenses pile up fast—co-pays, prescriptions, transportation, time off work—all on top of the regular bills that keep coming no matter what.
We do have good insurance, but good doesn’t mean affordable.
So we’re humbly asking for your support—financially, spiritually, prayerfully—as we walk through this. Our goal is $10,000 to help cover medical costs and daily necessities as Quonie focuses her energy on healing.
If you know her, you know she’s a fighter! She’s facing this with courage, but no one should have to face it alone.
Your generosity—whether through giving, sharing, or simply holding us in your thoughts and prayers—means the world to us. Every bit of love helps carry us forward.
With gratitude and hope,
Sam, Quonie and the kids,
