Everyone wishes they had a Fiona in their life.
Fiona is a daughter to Hugh and Marj, wife to Steven, mother to Nicole, Courtney, Mikayla, and Anthony, sister to Jim, Fraser, and Alan (and their spouses), auntie to seven, great-auntie to ten, friend to hundreds, and a tireless advocate for the community of Torrington. Fiona lives her life to make sure others are cared for, everyone has a voice, and those around her wear a smile.
In addition to being the heart of her family, Fiona has given countless hours to her community. She’s served on PTO boards, chaired the Torrington Board of Education, and organized holiday donations for cancer patients and their families—because, as a cancer survivor herself, she knows firsthand how vital support is during a life-altering battle. Fiona has always looked out for the ones who are too often overlooked.
This past year has brought unimaginable challenges. Fiona’s beloved mother passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Despite this grief, Fiona held her head high, continuing to care for others and work diligently at her job. But just five weeks ago, Fiona lost her job with no severance and only 2 weeks of insurance.
Two weeks after that, Fiona became severely ill, experiencing extreme bloating and stomach pain. After a visit to the ER, doctors ran a series of tests and surgeries to remove several pounds of fluid. Then came the heartbreaking news: Fiona has cancer. Again.
On the one-year anniversary of her mother’s passing, Fiona was diagnosed with Peritoneal Carcinomatosis and Stage 4 Metastatic Ovarian Cancer.
But true to form, Fiona is facing this battle with strength, courage, and hope. Together with her doctors, she has committed to a treatment plan with one goal in mind: a cure. This will be the fight of her life, and it won’t be easy, doctors have warned that the year ahead will be incredibly intense. Fiona will undergo multiple rounds of aggressive chemotherapy at Yale New Haven Hospital, along with ongoing treatments, medications, and surgeries. Life as she knew it has changed drastically in just a few short weeks.
While no family is ever truly ready to burden the emotional, physical and financial, this diagnosis really could not come at a worse time for Fiona and her family. Her only current option for coverage is COBRA, which costs approximately $2,400 a month.
Fiona has always given to others. Now, it’s our turn to give back to her.
Family and friends have already shown incredible love and support, and we are so grateful. But we know the road ahead will be long, expensive, and exhausting. We’re asking the community—those who know her, and those who simply want to support a fighter—to rally around Fiona.
Whether it’s by sharing this campaign or making a contribution, your help means the world. Please keep Fiona, her husband Steven, their children, and the entire Cappabianca and MacDonald families in your thoughts and prayers.
Let’s support Fiona in beating cancer—together.
