Help us support Delia in her recovery!
Earlier this year, Delia underwent surgery to remove a mass near her intestine that was later diagnosed as a malignant tumor. After that first surgery, a second tumor was identified that also needed to be removed. A couple of weeks ago, she underwent this second surgery to remove the tumor, but during the recovery period she faced an unexpected peritonitis which resulted in a severe infection. This required an emergency surgery and treatment at the ICU at Hospital de los Valles in Quito, Ecuador. During the period at the ICU, Delia had to be placed in a medically induced coma.
Through her incredible strength, her family’s love, and the best medical support from Hospital de los Valles, she was able to survive this.
Currently, she remains hospitalized as she still needs antibiotics to fully cure the infection plus multiple therapies to recover from the side effects of the ICU. Delia continues to show determination and commitment to recover from this life changing experience, but once she is cleared from the hospital and transitions home, she will still need medical care and continuing therapies to fully recover. We have learned from the medical team that they are very hopeful that Delia will overcome this and that she will get back to her normal routine. We also hope that there are no more signs of any tumors that may affect her now or in the future.
As we share this story that we have gone through as a family, we recognize that we need support to cover the unexpected expenses of her hospital stay and future medical care that cannot be currently covered by Delia’s health insurance.
It would mean so much to us if you are able to contribute in order to help us take care of Delia. Delia is so special to so many: a loving and supportive mom to Priscila and Anita, an unconditional wife to Guillermo, a devoted and kind sister to 6 siblings, a caring aunt to her nieces and nephews, a thoughtful and joyful mother-in-law to Ben and Andrew, and a close friend to so many.
Thank you for reading our story. Please know that your support means the world to our entire family!
