Help us support Daisey and her Family

I am writing to you today regarding a wonderful young lady by the name of Daisey, Daisey is from Kupungarri Aboriginal Community all the way up on the Gibb River Road in the Kimberley, in the last month or so Daisey and her family’s life was turned upside down when she received a diagnosis of Cancer at the young age of 13.

Daisey had just graduated from our wonderful Wananami Remote Community School where she was a school leader who represented our school at various camps and sporting events. Throughout her time at our school she showed such commitment to not only her own learning but the learning of others, she was often congratulated on the way in which she would help and encourage the younger students, whether it be helping with reading or lifting them up to score in one of our basketball games.

She worked so incredibly hard in her last year of Primary school to get accepted into St Johns Boarding School in Darwin. She was only there for a matter of weeks when they discovered that her sore throat was being caused by a lump on the back of the neck, she was then flown to Perth where lots and lots of testing took place only to discover that she had Rhabdomyosarcoma (which is a cancer of the soft tissue such as tendon or cartilage) this news has heartbroken so many of her family members as they only a few short years ago lost her grandmother (who brought her up from a baby).

The family have now been told they will need to stay in Perth for up to a year for treatment for Daisey, her aunty and uncle who have looked after her since her grandmother passed also have 3 boys of their own and now face the heartbreak of all being separated as her uncle Dennis and the boys have to come back to the Kimberley for schooling and work as Dennis is the school Bus Driver he drives Kids including his own from Dodnun Community some 50klms away and he is also the School Council Chairman.   Aunty Djari also works at the school and is loved by all the kids there, she is very highly regarded at the school and works hard.

For the family to travel to Perth to support Daisey and Aunty Djari they first have to travel from Community being 500klms from Broome (300klm dirt road) then hop a flight from Broome to Perth.  Flights from Broome to Perth are so expensive especially when they still have other expenses rent, food etc.  This donation money would help take the stress out of the situation and we would also be able to send support in between the holidays to the girls in Perth.  So please help make this possible and help us support one of our brightest young girls get through this very very hard time in her life and her family's life.
