Hi everyone! My name is Carly DeSabella and I am a Special Education major at The College of Charleston.

This past spring break, I got the greatest opportunity to travel to Belize with fellow students in my cohort: Jessie Donofrio, Kyle Bowman, and Brooke Tarr. After spending a week in Belize and volunteering at local schools, we noticed that children with special needs are not getting the academic attention they need in order to succeed.

Jessie, Kyle, Brooke, and I have come together and decided we will be returning to Belize and Guatemala next year in May of 2026 to implement an inclusive summer camp tailored to children with special needs! Our goal is to raise $5,000, which will go towards the materials needed as we will have the children participate in art therapy, music therapy, field games, and sensory play!
