Hello family and friends in Mexico, Canada, United States, and many other countries. We are starting a "Go Fund Me" campaign to help Carlos Basto, his wife Claudia (our favourite Latitude 20 manager!) and their family. We need your help!

You may have heard that Carlos had a heart attack recently. He had to undergo emergency surgery at the time and will be needing more surgery soon. We asked Carlos if he could share his story.....

Carlos' words: "Hola, mi nombre es Carlos Basto, am 47 years old, I work as a musician, love to play music , fishing and practica sports, have a familly of 4 , my two girls and my wife Claudia.

On April 27, I have to be taken to the hospital as an emergency, I was feeling really bad and couldn't breathe properly, they checked on me and told me I had to run to the cardiologist which I did. I went to Costamed hospital which was the closest and could attend me quickly. I was having a heart attack and I needed to be in surgery as soon as posible so the cardiologist didn't recommend to waste more time - I was already on four hours of heart attack. I felt I wasn't gonna make it, so I decided to get the surgery at the hospital Costamed . The IMSS mexican social security would have been two or 3 more hours till they could help me. The surgery was really good and my recovering is going well , Costamed gave me a bill of 200,000 pesos which me and my wife are collecting and putting some savings on it. I also had valoration with the doctor and am waiting for a date for a second surgery as I still have a second artery plugged at 70% that needs to be taken care of too.

So I share my story for anyone who would be willing to help, anything will be grateful and useful and will help me to be healthy and take care of my family again. "

As many of you know, Carlos and Claudia have always been there for Puerto Aventuras and the surrounding areas. Now it is time for us to be there for them. We are asking family and friends if they can contribute anything to help cover the costs that they have from the first surgery and now the upcoming surgery.

It is important to know that Carlos' insurance company would not cover the costs of the surgery and that IMSS would have eventually sent him to Costamed for the surgery, but the wait time for the insurance decision would have risked his life. This family tried to protect themselves by way of insurance, but as many of us have experienced, insurance coverage doesn't always provide the coverage you need.

We all love Carlos, Claudia and their daughters, Darlika and Ingres. We cannot cure Carlos but we can help ease their financial burden and the stress from this that they are facing.

We hope to raise $20000 Canadian (CDN dollars as I am setting this up in Canada.). This will pay for the original surgery and the subsequent surgery.
