Hi, my name is Shecky, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my daughter Marissa and myself during one of the hardest seasons our family has had to face.
My wife, Beth, has lived with bipolar 1 disorder for most of her life; long before receiving an official diagnosis. Over the years, we've walked through many mental health crises, including eight hospitalizations tied to suicide attempts, often involving prescription medications like benzodiazepines. Four of those have happened in just the past year.
Two weeks ago, Beth suffered another severe mental health crisis and was hospitalized following an overdose. She spent the first week unresponsive and under sedation to allow her body time to begin healing. She is now receiving care at a psychiatric facility, where she is working toward recovery and a long-term treatment plan.
While we’re grateful that she is in safe hands, the impact on our household has been profound.
Due to the nature of this hospitalization, Beth has been cut off from financial support tied to her family’s estate, which had helped sustain our household. That loss, combined with overdue bills left in the wake of this crisis, has left Marissa and me struggling to keep things afloat.
I’m doing all I can to keep up with our financial needs, and Marissa; after years of navigating her own serious health challenges; is only just now returning to work. We’re doing everything we can, but we’ve hit a point where we need help.
We’ve set a modest fundraising goal because we’ve been so blessed by the support we’ve already received over the years, in big and small ways, from friends, family, and our extended community. Anything you are able to give now; no matter the amount; would mean the world to us.
Every dollar will go directly toward covering the few bills and basic household expenses that have fallen behind due to this medical emergency.
It’s never easy to ask for help, but we believe in our village and we’ve seen the power of it. Whether you’re able to donate, share, or simply keep our family in your thoughts, we’re deeply grateful.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for holding space for our family right now.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Shecky & Marissa
