On Saturday 14th December, a two car collision at around 8pm resulted in one of the cars ploughing through the front of our home. The house shook from the impact. Luckily no one was inside the room which is a bedroom at the time. There’s a huge hole and the inside and side of the house is very badly cracked. It has been deemed unsafe for us to stay as the house could collapse, the car is still in place, and we have been out of our home since then. We have since been paying for a Travelodge. We reached out to the CEO to see if they would offer even a small discount, they said no. Local housing are suggesting we could be put in a hotel but moving weekly, and which we may not be able to take our two elderly indoor cats to. We have two young children with SEN and sensory issues, coping with change is really hard and our cats offer emotional support to all of us. We can’t afford to keep staying here and also we can’t cope with moving children who won’t cope on a weekly basis either. I’m waiting to see a neurologist and I have PTSD already and a kidney condition. I am clinging to the threads of my sanity.
We have repeatedly begged for a barrier to be put on the corner outside our home, for calming measures to be put in place, the road in both directions is a magnet for speeding cars, it’s incessant, there is no protection from the road really at all, about 4 feet of pavement with a dropped kerb on a junction that has had 13 crashes that I have personally witnessed outside in 6.5 years. A man was nearly killed on this corner a while ago. We have feared this happening for a long time and been dismissed by the local councillor. It’s been a huge cause of anxiety because every speeding car we hear is a worry that it will crash into us.
And now it’s happened and it’s almost Christmas and we can’t live in our house and we need help.
