My name is Miriam
This is one of the hardest things I have ever had to write.
Due to sudden and completely unexpected circumstances, my partner and I are being forced to relocate back to Europe urgently. Because of visa restrictions and timing issues, everything has happened incredibly fast, and we have have to relocate back to Europe in May . This move was never planned, and it has left us in an extremely difficult financial situation.
I am in Australia on a sponsorship visa, but my occupation was unexpectedly removed from the sponsorship list last year which was not a problem at that time. In December 2025 I was faced with serious and extreme issues in my workplace that severely affected my wellbeing. For my own health, I had no choice but to leave my job.
This left us in an impossible position. Without my occupation on the list, I am unable to secure another sponsor, and applying for a different visa would cost thousands and thousands of dollars — money we simply do not have. After exhausting all realistic options, we were forced to make the heartbreaking decision to relocate back home to Slovakia.
What makes this situation even more devastating is that we are not alone — we have our dog, Eddie, who has been with us for almost three years. He will be 3 years old in June.
Eddie is not “just a dog.” He is our family. He has been part of our lives for years— through homes, changes, challenges, and everyday moments. He is our constant, our emotional support, our home. The thought of leaving him behind is something we simply cannot accept. He depends on us, trusts us, and loves us unconditionally — and we owe him the same.
Right now, we are facing a reality we never imagined. The cost of transporting Eddie safely back to Europe is approximately $5000, (AUD) and at this moment, we truly do not have the means to cover it.
Because of visa restrictions, I am currently unable to work normally. Our income is extremely limited, and after paying rent and basic living expenses, there is nothing left to save. The relocation itself happened suddenly, leaving us no time to prepare financially.
The biggest cost is Eddie’s flight, which alone is around $5,000. In addition, we must cover:
• Mandatory vaccinations
• Veterinary checks
• Official paperwork and certifications required for international travel
• Government and airline-related fees
Every step is required, and none of it is optional. We will be attaching all documentation and details of the required vaccinations and procedures so everything is completely transparent.
Asking for help does not come easily to us. But right now, we are doing everything we can to keep our family together. Eddie has given us nothing but love, loyalty, and joy for the past three years — and we cannot imagine leaving him behind because of circumstances beyond our control.
If you are able to donate, even a small amount, it would mean more than words can express. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser would help us just as much.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping us bring Eddie home with us.
We just want to stay together.
