My name is Kristy, and I’m reaching out for help to keep my family in our home. My son Kamden, who is 22, has been supporting me and his younger sister since he was 17. I’m unable to work due to back problems and other health issues, and I’m currently in the process of applying for disability, which can take a long time. Everything has fallen on Kamden’s shoulders to provide for our family. My daughter, who just graduated high school a year early, works part-time and helps with household needs, but I don’t expect her to contribute more than she already does. Kamden has been on the autism spectrum with Asperger’s and ADHD since he was 4 years old. Despite these challenges, he has stepped up in ways most young people never have to, and I am so grateful for him. We have been living in our home for five years, and it fits our family perfectly. Unfortunately, we received an eviction notice. We have nowhere else to go and no close family nearby. The past nine months have been especially hard. Kamden had to reduce his work hours in August, to attend EMT classes, I lost my government assistance when my daughter graduated early, and our only vehicle needed expensive repairs twice. For the past 6 weeks Kamden has been doing CNA classes! These setbacks made it impossible to keep up with rent, even though we can afford it. It was never my plan to become disabled or to rely on my children for support. I’ve always been the provider, raising my three kids alone without child support and living paycheck to paycheck. If we can just get current with our rent, we’ll be able to stay in our home and get back on track. I’m praying that my disability comes through soon so I can help take the load off Kamden. He has sacrificed so much for our family, and I want nothing more than to give him some relief. Any support you can offer will help us stay in the place we call home! Thank you for reading our story and considering helping us during this difficult time.
