This is incredibly hard for me to share, yet I need to be brave right now. In 2022, my husband was struck by lightning while working on a TV show. At the time, he was one of the best focus pullers in the world, with a 25-year career working on award-winning shows and films. We had a beautiful, adventurous life with our son, and another baby on the way. Since that day, everything has changed. He now lives with ongoing and cumulative health issues—brain injury, nerve damage, vision problems, memory loss, and physical limitations that have made him unable to work. The emotional toll has been just as heavy. Losing a career he loved so deeply, one he dedicated over 25 years to, is something he is still grieving daily. He was on state disability, which helped us get by, but that ended in November 2025. We are currently waiting on permanent disability, which could take until 2027. We have taken out loans to survive, and those resources are now gone. I am a preschool teacher, and my income does not cover even our rent, let alone food, bills, and basic needs. Right now, we truly don’t know how we will pay rent or keep up with our expenses. We are doing everything we can to stay afloat while we wait for disability support or a lawsuit to settle, which could still take a year or more. We are scared of losing our home. Asking for help like this is not easy for me. We have always been self-sufficient, hardworking, and independent and have reached a point where we cannot do this alone. With encouragement from close friends, as this feels feels really uncomfortable asking, I’m finding the courage to share our story and ask for support.
