Help Us Stay in Canada and Rebuild Our Lives

My name is Daniel, and less than a year ago I moved from the UK to Canada with my fiancé, Samantha, to build a better life together. What we found here was more than we ever expected—a home, a community, and a future I truly believed in.

I quickly found work coaching soccer in Toronto, and it didn’t take long to realize this is where I belong. Coaching has given me purpose. I’ve built real connections with players, supported their development, and become part of a community that means everything to me.

But over the past several months, a series of unexpected events has put all of that at risk.

After financial setbacks, personal loss, and now the rejection of my work visa, we are facing the possibility of losing everything we’ve worked so hard to build. Without the ability to work during the visa process, we are struggling to cover even our most basic expense—rent.

My name is Daniel, and 11 months ago I made the life-changing decision to leave the UK and start a new chapter in Canada with my fiancé, Samantha, and our beloved ginger cat, Jonesy.

Not long after arriving in Toronto, I was fortunate to find an incredible opportunity coaching soccer. Very quickly, I realized this is where I truly belong. Coaching has given me purpose—I’ve built meaningful relationships with players, supported their development, and formed genuine connections with families and colleagues. Canada has become home in every sense of the word.

However, the past several months have brought a series of unexpected challenges.

In August, while attending a tournament in Ottawa, our truck broke down—marking the beginning of a difficult financial period. Just days later, our cat Jonesy became seriously ill. Despite doing everything we could, we lost him to a sudden and severe bladder condition. It was devastating emotionally, and the emergency veterinary costs exhausted most of our savings.

The winter months were also tough, with reduced work hours and long, isolating stretches that made it difficult to recover financially. Still, we remained hopeful. As spring arrived, things began to look up again—we started making plans and felt like we were finally getting back on track.

Then we received heartbreaking news: my work visa renewal was denied.

It felt like everything we had worked so hard for was suddenly pulled out from under us.

We are now facing an incredibly difficult situation. Returning to the UK would likely mean homelessness, as we used our savings to build our life here and to get through last year’s emergencies. Our only real option is to apply for a new visa and restore my status in Canada.

This process could take 6–7 months, during which time I am unable to work.

We are doing everything we can to stay afloat. I plan to continue volunteering with the soccer club I love, supporting the players and teams I’ve grown so close to. We will rely on food banks for basic needs.

This GoFundMe is simply to help us cover rent and avoid losing our home while we work through this process.

Any support—no matter how small—would mean the world to us during this incredibly challenging time. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for helping us hold on to the life we’ve built here.

Rent: $2500
Timeline: 6-7 months
Total Goal: $15,000
