Hi, on Thursday, March 26th, around 7 am, my 4-month-old son was picked up by EMTs after becoming unresponsive, becoming limp, and his eyes rolling back. He was transported to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD, where they ran blood work, gave oxygen, and tested for different flu and cold-like variants. Everything was normal; however, they decided to send us by ambulance to Children's National in DC.
Since being here, they've done CTs, blood work, EKG, heart ultrasound, antibiotics, and X-rays. X-rays were clear. Blood work is normal. The ultrasound showed a hole in his heart that will hopefully go away on its own. However, on the first CT, they found a subdural hematoma, a brain bleed. They asked if he's fallen or hit his head in the last week or two, and to our knowledge, he has not. It is possibly a bleeding/clotting disorder. We are certain there's been no trauma; he's either with his dad, me, or our upstairs neighbor who used to run a daycare. They are the ones that helped get him back when he was unresponsive and got him crying until the EMTs arrived. However, thankfully, the second CT showed that the bleed is stable as of now and will not require surgery.
The biggest issue we are currently having is keeping him calm and comfortable. We won't leave until maybe the middle of next week at the earliest. We will both be out of work as we're well over an hour and a half away from home and work. We are asking for some help, even though we hate to do so, for bills, food, and gas that we'll be short on coming up.
