Help Us Solve the Plastic Pollution Crisis
Donation protected
Our planet is drowning in plastic pollution.
To give you a sense of just how dire the situation is:
- Each day 1.4 million tons of new plastic is produced, made out of our dwindling supply of fossil fuels.
- All this plastic does not degrade naturally at the end of its life. So where does it all go?
- Plastics break down into tiny fragments called microplastics which get dispersed everywhere, including our bodies. It is estimated that we each consume one tablespoon of microplastics each week.
- Plastics get dispersed in ecosystems and in the ocean. By 2050, the ocean will contain more plastic than fish.
- Even in the best-case scenario, if plastic is properly disposed of, most of it ends up in our landfills. Only 9% of plastic is successfully recycled as plastic recycling is expensive and inefficient.
How do we solve this problem?
Unfortunately, it does not seem like the large-scale use of plastic is going away. Plastic is a remarkably cheap and effective material that has been integrated into every sector of production and consumption. We need a plastic that does not harm the environment.
Is this even possible?
Yes! Bioplastics already exist. You may have used compostable plastic cups or straws. The problem is that these plastics are expensive and have inferior qualities to traditional plastics, and therefore remain limited to niche applications. The only way to achieve a large-scale meaningful environmental change is to develop bioplastics that are cost and performance competitive with petroleum-based plastics. I have made this my life mission by founding Sustainable Chemicals™.
Sustainable Chemicals™ has pioneered a process to create a new renewable, biodegradable bioplastic. Our plastic comes from plant biomass and is both recyclable and degradable. This means that at the end of its life, it will return to the Earth without causing harm to our bodies or ecosystems along the way. Best of all, our plastic uses a raw material that is cheaper than that of traditional plastics. To learn more, check out our website.
Unfortunately, the process of research and scientific design is expensive and our small start-up lab based in Golden, Colorado does not have the resources of its large corporate competitors. To make this vision a reality we need funding to purchase lab equipment and supplies, support staff travel to research conferences and customer sites, and grow our team.
Your donation will bring us one step closer to a world without plastic pollution.
100% of your generous donation will go to Sustainable Chemicals, LLC.
Thank you so much!
