"Cowgirls: Women of Western Art" - Help Us Tell Their Story
For over a century, Western art has been dominated by male voices telling male stories. Museums, galleries, and collectors have celebrated the cowboys, but largely ignored the cowgirls—the extraordinary women artists whose powerful work captures the authentic spirit of the American West.
We're changing that narrative.
This groundbreaking documentary follows living female Western artists like Veryl Goodnight, whose monumental bronze sculptures honor pioneer women and wildlife, and Felice House, who boldly reimagines classic Western films with female leads in her provocative "Re-Western" series. From Peggy Judy's expressive ranch paintings in Colorado to sculptures emerging from studios across Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, these artists are creating world-class work that deserves recognition alongside the celebrated masters.
Help Us Launch This Journey
We're raising $10,000 to create a compelling "sizzle reel"—a 10-minute proof-of-concept that will showcase these incredible artists and their stories. This initial funding covers production costs and travel to capture footage with our featured artists across the American West.
This sizzle reel is our launchpad. With it, we'll secure the $300,000 needed for a full feature-length documentary that meets the production quality standards for premier platforms like Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Prime, and PBS.
Your Impact: Every donation directly supports:
• Travel costs to reach remote ranch studios and artist workshops
• Professional equipment and crew for capturing high-quality footage
• Artist interviews and intimate studio sessions
• Beautiful landscape cinematography that showcases the Western settings that inspire these artists
This isn't just about art—it's about representation, recognition, and righting a historical wrong. Every donation helps us preserve and celebrate a visual heritage of the American West as seen through women's eyes—a perspective that's been largely absent from our cultural narrative until now.
Join us in bringing these cowgirl canvases to the world.
From ranch studios to streaming platforms, their time is now.
