Help Us Share the Story of a Daughter’s Gift of Life
In 2019, our dad, Rene, was diagnosed with leukemia. What followed was one of the hardest journeys our family has ever faced. Through countless treatments, ups and downs, prayers, and unwavering faith, he underwent rounds of chemotherapy and eventually a stem cell transplant in 2020 and beat the disease. We celebrated what felt like a miracle!
But our journey wasn’t over.
In the summer of 2024, years of powerful medications combined with the lasting damage from the leukemia caused him to go into kidney failure. He spent a month in the hospital before beginning dialysis, a treatment he has relied on ever since while waiting and hoping for a kidney transplant.
Then another miracle happened.
Without hesitation and enthusiastically, my sister, Danielle, raised her hand and volunteered to become his donor.
Here’s the incredible part: Danielle is adopted! We don’t share the same bloodline, but somehow, through the grace of God and countless prayers, test after test, months of waiting, tears, anxiety, and hope, the transplant team at Methodist Hospital in Houston delivered the news we had all been praying for:
DANIELLE IS A PERFECT MATCH FOR DADDY!
Out of all the possibilities, she is the one person who can give him the gift of life. Soon, father and daughter will undergo surgery together on the very same day. Danielle will give one of her kidneys to the man who first gave her a family.
Something Danielle said after we found out she was to be his donor was that, “He healed a heart he didn't break… You saved my life, and now I have the incredible honor of helping save yours.”
There aren’t words to describe what that means to our family. While our hearts are overflowing with gratitude, we now face a different challenge.
Danielle is a devoted single mother raising four beautiful children. As she recovers from major surgery, she will be unable to work and still has a household to support.
Our dad also faces a long recovery after his transplant. He is the primary provider for our parents’ household, and there will be a significant loss of income while he heals. That’s why we’re asking for help.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will help both households cover everyday necessities such as mortgage, rent, utilities, groceries, transportation, medical expenses, and other essential bills so that they have time to focus on what truly
matters most: HEALING!
If you’re unable to give financially, sharing this fundraiser with your family, friends, church, workplace, or community would mean just as much. Every share brings us one step closer to easing this burden.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, your generosity, your prayers, and for walking alongside our family during this extraordinary chapter.
We truly believe in miracles, and because of Danielle’s selfless gift, our dad has been given another chance at life.
