Djaa – A First Nations Video Game Bringing Culture to Life

Hi, my name is Kerry Neill. I’m a proud Kabi Kabi Traditional Owner and the producer of Djaa, a cultural video game created by our awesome team at Triballink — a 100% First Nations owned company based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
The word Djaa comes from our Kabi Kabi language:
djaa (n): djaagan – earth, land, dirt, ground, place, town, country, home.
More than just a game, Djaa is a digital doorway into Aboriginal culture — an immersive, educational experience where young people connect with Country, language, and lore through storytelling and interactive play.
Set on Kabi Kabi Country (South-East Queensland) and guided by cultural teachers, players travel through a Dreaming-inspired world. Along the way, they learn bush survival skills, explore First Nations languages, and unlock traditional knowledge through real-world video storytelling and gameplay. It’s fun, powerful, and deeply grounded in cultural truth passed down by Elders and community.
Our team has spent the last six years developing this concept with respect, care and cultural integrity. Every step of Djaa is guided by local Elders and our Cultural Advisory Board, ensuring the game stays true to culture and protocols, and the wisdom of our Ancestors.
Now, we need your help to take it to the next level.

We’re raising funds to:
• Complete the next phase of development. We’re using Djaa as a tool to bridge culture and technology, showing young mob they can be the storytellers, artists, and developers of tomorrow.
• Part of the funds will go towards hands-on workshops in schools and communities that teach kids about both culture and coding.
• We’ll offer free access to Djaa in selected communities where funding for cultural resources is limited.
• This ensures that no child misses out on connecting with their culture through play and learning.
• We’ll use part of the funds to develop guided learning packs for schools and early learning centres to make sure Djaa supports both cultural awareness and the national curriculum.
