Help us send Keegan to New York!!!

Hello,

Katrina Knutson and Sayge Carroll of Hampden Bend Gallery and Studio nominated Keegan Xavi to participate in the apexart Fellowship and she was accepted to be in the cohort for April 2022. The apexart Fellowship is an alternative educational program that invites creative individuals to leave their familiar surroundings for a month-long stay in an unfamiliar city. The program provides new sources of inspiration through exposure to new cultures, interests, and experiences. Although the Fellowship provides for housing and transportation, Keegan will need funds for food and other expenses during her month-long stay beginning in April.

For over a decade Keegan has been teaching art history and practice at PYC in North Minneapolis and at many other schools and spaces across the twin cities including Free Arts MN, People Serving People, The Bridge for Youth. She has twice received support from the city and redistributed those funds to other out of work artists and community members during the pandemic. Over the last couple of years she has worked tirelessly to find housing for folks in need, sharing space and resources. She has been a stabilizing force in her neighborhood and in the greater Minneapolis art community.

Keegan is a great maker, thinker and teacher. This residency will benefit Keegan’s growth as an artist and teacher, and help create energy, ideas and practice that will benefit all the communities Keegan works in. We would like to call on our community to offer their support to this amazing human and artist.

Our goal is to send her on her journey with $2500.00 for extra expenses. This will allow her to free her mind of the worries of mortgage payments for two months, the month gone and the one when she returns having not “worked” (generated income) during her leave.
