Hi, I’m Ayo, a UK-based librarian and the administrator of a small African church community. Every year, we collect gently used books from local schools and libraries to send to under-resourced schools in Nigeria and other parts of Africa.
In the UK, schools get rid of their old stock annually — but in many African classrooms, children have little or no access to fiction or basic textbooks. These books can change lives and have in the past. Last year, we donated most of the books to a local charity called - Human Rights Foundation, who have built a library in the Female prison in Lagos for the children who live with their mothers and young mothers in jail who want to read.
Last year, I raised funds personally to send what I could, but many great books still remain with me, waiting for the chance to reach a child who needs them. This year, even more schools and libraries have offered donations — but we need help covering the cost of shipping.
What We Need Your Help For:
Shipping to Nigeria
Packing and materials
Local transport and distribution
Your Support = Books in the Hands of Children
With your help, we can get hundreds of books into classrooms that have none.
Please donate or share — every bit helps!
Thank you,
Ayo O.
