UPDATE: WE HAVE NOW REACHED OUR GOAL - BUT I AM GOING TO KEEP THE FUNDRAISER OPEN TILL AFTER THE FUNERAL TOMORROW, AS ALL EXTRA FUNDS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO AMAURY'S CHILDREN TO ASSIST THEM IN ANY WAY WE CAN
If you knew Amaury or "Spider" as some of his friends called him in Wexford, you knew his energy before you knew his name.
He started at the Ferrycarrig Hotel as a kitchen porter - but Spider's work energy was legendary. Under Head Chef Tony, he worked his way up to become a chef himself. Later, at the Talbot Hotel with Head Chef Nigel, he arrived early after a gym session - always early - doing the rounds, fist-bumping everyone, bringing what Nigel called "a salsa party to work." He was a bundle of energy, a powerful and fast worker. He also had a second job at Total Slip Solutions, working alongside Richard for 14 years, helping build that business from the ground up. Every extra shift, every extra hour, every sacrifice - all for his daughters back home. An adorable, lovable rogue who made everyone around him smile.
But here's what broke our hearts: in 14 years of living in Ireland, Amaury never once went home to the Dominican Republic.
Not once.
Not because he didn't want to. Not because he didn't miss his daughters Naomi and Lilly desperately. But because every euro, every extra hour, every sacrifice was for them. He sent everything home. When Lilly needed money for nursing school, Amaury worked extra shifts. When his granddaughter Amaia was born in 2024 - his pride and joy, the love that lit up his whole face when he talked about her - he sent money home instead of spending it on a ticket to meet her.
There was always something more important than going home. His daughters' education. Their future. Their dreams.
On February 12th, 2026, Amaury's heart gave out suddenly at work. He was 49 years old.
Now we need to do for Amaury what he never did for himself: send him home.
His daughters Naomi and Lilly are in the Dominican Republic with baby Amaia. They are heartbroken. In their culture, their father's spirit cannot rest until he is laid to rest in his homeland, near them, where they can visit him and tell him about their lives - the lives he sacrificed everything to build for them.
Repatriating Amaury from Ireland to the Dominican Republic costs approximately €20,000. It covers:
- Funeral services in Ireland (so his Irish family can say goodbye)
- Embalming and preparation for international transport
- Flights and documentation
- Reception and burial in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
Amaury gave 14 years to Ireland. He gave his whole heart to Wexford. He never asked for anything for himself - every cent went home to his daughters.
Now we're asking you to help us complete his final journey.
Every donation, no matter how small, brings Amaury closer to home. Brings him closer to the daughters who were his entire world. Brings him to rest in the soil he left behind so his girls could have a better future.
He made it to Ireland to give them everything.
Let's make sure he makes it home.
With gratitude and heavy hearts,
His Extended Adopted Irish Family
(On behalf of Naomi, Lilly, and baby Amaia)
